Jo’s Blog: Introducing 'My Shorts' (no, not that kind!)

This year, I've made a proper effort to get more organised with my trip videos. My blogs are great (if I do say so myself), but they can only feature so many clips of me wandering around hotels and pretending I’m not totally baffled by the light switches.

So… I’ve been squirrelling away on the extras. You know - those little behind-the-scenes travel moments that didn’t make the cut but are far too good to keep to myself.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to wake up in a private pool villa in Marrakech, gallop across the desert on a camel (ok, wobble slightly) or see Estonians sabrage wine bottles with surprising accuracy, you’re in for a treat.

These are the bits that made me laugh, pause, gasp, and -on one occasion - duck.

Here’s a little round-up of some of my favourite recent shorts from:

  • Morocco (twice in 6 months - clearly, I’m a fan)

  • Iceland (again… hello, Reykja-holics)

  • Estonia (new addition, big love)

Watch them with a cuppa. Or a cocktail. No judgement here.

Morocco

My love affair with Morocco shows no signs of slowing down. Trips number 7 and 8 took me from lemon-scented luxury to desert drama — and I still can’t pick a favourite.

The Lemonary

This is how I plan to spend my twilight years: floating in a private pool, lemon groves on one side, lavender on the other.

Sunrise over Marrakech

A rare early rise (don’t faint) rewarded with sunrise over Marrakech… and hot air balloons.

Nobu Marrakech

Fay and I got very comfortable at Nobu Marrakech. Eight courses of Japanese-Peruvian-Moroccan fusion. Rude not to…

Atlas Mountains & Desert Adventure

Ait Ben Haddou: UNESCO fortress, Hollywood film set, and the reason I momentarily forgave hills…

Camel trekking in the Sahara

Off-road chaos meets camel calm. Our journey into the Sahara - hold on tight...

Todra Gorge

Soaring canyon walls, epic scenery… and my knees reminding me I’m not 25.

Estonia

This little Baltic beauty had been quietly calling my name. Spoiler: I’m already plotting my return.

Estonia’s food scene

Deliciously underrated. I did the hard work (ahem) so you don’t have to…

Pärnu

Soft sands, warm shallows, and big ‘bucket-and-spade’ energy…

Muhu Winehouse

Sabrage done the Estonian way, with a big grin and no injury…

Dinner at Saaremaa Veski

Schnapps and storytelling in a windmill? Yes please.

Iceland

The Shaylers are certified Reykja-holics. This time: saunas, surprises, shopping and some excellent whale chat...

Whale watching

I only recommend Elding for whale watching in Reykjavik - they’re the original, and they really care.

Icelandic gift shops

The gift shops may be expensive, but Icelandic ‘tut’ is another level.
